What is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) at Walk Intuit?

  • Therapy in motion with a herd of horses held in sacred space
  • Experiential non-judgmental process,
  • Groups are led by a team of 2 highly trained professionals a therapist and an equine professional
  • A partnership, relationship, and deep spiritual connection with their horse partners
  • An environment that provides opportunity for change to occur more quickly than in traditional office sessions.
  • Therapists who are also trauma trained and many have somatic,  or EMDR training
  • Therapists that  may incorporate Expressive Arts Therapies including painting, drumming, and the use of symbols to the sessions to deepen the therapeutic experience and meet every client where they are at. EAP is therapy in action. Participants go beyond the office and spring into action, exploring patterns and creating solutions. During an EAP session the individuals  will engage in ground activities with one or more horses depending on location.

 What does EAP help with?
Individuals have the opportunity through this work to increase insight, rediscover their authentic self, recognize and change behavior patterns, deepen understanding of relationships, address addictions, work as a team, strengthen group cohesion, resolve conflict, strengthen leadership skills, increase emotional regulation, work through trauma, increase confidence and self-esteem, work through fears and anxiety, increase coping tools, and much more. The opportunities for healing, growth, and recovery are endless

Why we Partner with Horses?
We believe horse is a great spiritual teacher. The essence of horse is powerful, wise, nurturing, intuitive, deep seers. They are there to listen to whatever rests heavy on our hearts and minds with no judgement, criticism, or opinion, yet, they do respond and acknowledge. They may lean into us when we need a nudge, or wrap their neck around us when we need a hug. They reflect the deepest parts of ourselves and allow us to feel truly and entirely seen and heard. Horses are prey animals and their primary goal in life is to survive as a herd. They rely on their instincts for survival which make them experts at reading non-verbal communication as well as sensing emotions. They provide instant feedback by mirroring and responding to patterns, emotions, and relationships of individuals in session.  Horses live in the present moment and can offer great teachings about how to experience what is going on in this moment. Horses offer an opportunity for healing, growth, connection, self-exploration and so much more.

Group Sessions are typically 1.5 hours but can be up to 3 hours.  Contact for rates

Meet Our Horses

Equine therapy with walk intuit

Jennifer and Jessica Co-founders of Walk Intuit are seen in this recording. This video was recorded while working with a treatment recovery center that WI contracted to provide Equine Therapy for a number of years.

As you will see the experience can be incredibly impactful. We are so grateful for this beautiful opportunity to heal alongside our herd of horses. This is Sassy Blue, who is still part of our herd.

Providing Horsemanship in Orange Park Acres and Costa Mesa

Kids, Teens, Adults, Families, Homeschool and Groups

Kelly Roberts' skilled horsewoman provides horsemanship and beginner riding lessons. These individual lessons are typically 1 hour in duration and work to build skills in working with the horse focusing on leadership, confidence, large motor movement, balance, and self awareness of the body in space. The student will learn how to properly approach a horse and work with the awareness of their energy, intention, and pace to build a connection with the horse and notice when they are provided permission to get on. The student will learn how to prep the horse by brushing and preparing for saddling and eventually work to increase balance while stepping up to get on the horse. Kelly will then begin to work with the student on balance, coordination, and build skills around basic communication to the horse. This will work on students' balance, left and right side awareness, pressure versus release, body awareness, and awareness of the horse's breath, movement and non verbal communication. As students progress through the basic communication movement on horse will be permitted without Kelly leading the horse and basic beginner riding independently will take place. During this student is able to demonstrate greater body awareness, more independent communication with the horse, balance, and more understanding of how much pressure to apply and when to apply pressure. Students will be working with core muscle groups during this group including, core, arms, thighs, and ankle movement. Students will increase relaxed muscle state while learning to ground into the saddle or seat pad of the horse. Students will work on maintaining a straight relaxed posture as they increase strength and attention to their body.
